Item 28 Recommendation: Approve amendment to Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the fire fighters employee representation Unit 601 to extend the term of the MOU to December 31, 2008, implement negotiated salary increases, salary structure modifications and the Fitness for Life Program. NOTE: The County's pension actuary, Buck Consultants, has advised that the proposed salary adjustments exceed Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association's current assumptions regarding salary inflation. However, when taken in conjunction with salary adjustments granted to these and other County employees over the last three years, the proposed adjustments will have no negative impact on the funded status of the retirement system. Item 29 Recommendation: Approve amendment to Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the supervisory fire fighters employee representation Unit 602 to extend the term of the MOU to December 31, 2008, implement negotiated salary increases, salary structure modifications and the Fitness for Life Program; also approve related changes for nonrepresented Fire Fighters; and approve introduction of related ordinance to implement the recommended changes. NOTE: The County's pension actuary, Buck Consultants, has advised that the proposed salary adjustments exceed LACERA's current assumptions regarding salary inflation. However, when taken in conjunction with salary adjustments granted to these and other County employees over the last three years, the proposed adjustments will have no negative impact on the funded status of the retirement system. MOU Changes, May 2005

Fire Fighter labor MOUs were approved at the Board of Supervisors Meeting—May 17, 2005:

Item 19 Recommendation: Approve successor MOUs for the Fire Fighters employee representation unit (Unit 601) and Supervisory Fire Fighters employee representation unit (Unit 602) which provide salary adjustments of 3% (12 levels) on April 1, 2005; 2% (8 levels) on December 1, 2005; a 1.5% (6 levels) increase in the current Emergency Medical Technician bonus; amending various sections extending provisions negotiated with represented employee units to non-represented Fire Department classifications. NOTE: The County's pension actuary, Mellon, has advised that the proposed salary adjustments will have no negative impact on the funded status of the retirement system. (Relates to Agenda No. 82) (05-1344). Vote: Unanimously carried. Absent: Supervisor Molina.
